Oral exam

Oral exams are Thurs and Fri, Oct. 1 and 2.

You will work with a partner.  You need to know how to ask the 8 questions that have been on the board that we have been working with.  You and your partner will each randomly receive an animal.  You need to be able to ask/answer all of the questions for each animal.

After the essay exam, you will have the rest of the class period to practice and prepare for the oral with your partner.

Project due and Essay exam!

Next week, on Tues/ Wed there are two big things in class!  Your animals book is due and you have the in-class essay exam.

Animals book:  Please bring your rubric to include with your book.  If you did not have enough room after your homework, you can just attach more pages.  Even though your grade is entirely based on the 8 new animals, I still want to see your original work from the first 8 animals.  (You can not repeat animals)

Essay exam:  The rubric is exactly the same as the book rubric, but you need to organize your writing into an essay.  (Probably one paragraph per animal.)  Working on your project is practice for the essay exam.  You are writing all of the same things and same sentence structure, but you do not know which animals you will need to write about, based on the writing prompt.  You will receive a new rubric before the exam so that you can reference it during the exam.

After your exam in class, the rest of class will be spent preparing for your oral exam!

Grammar quiz on Fri and Mon! (some clues)

Reminder:  you do have a grammar quiz next class and it is on
1- stem-change verbs (verbos de bota)
2- verbs like gustar (2 options for each verb:  singular o plural, which word goes in front of the verbs?)
3- comparasions

*You will need to conjugate a few verbs from the vocab list.  Make sure that you know which verbs on the vocab list have a stem-change.  You also need to know all six present-tense endings (vosotros included)

**The gustar verbs section is just like homework #3 you did (the second page in the packet, not the one that says #3).  Know how to conjugate those verbs and which little words go in front of them.

***mas que / menos que / tan como / tanto como... Know when to use "que" and when to use "como".  Also, know when to use "tan" and when to use "tanto".

We will be doing some practice in class with these things before the quiz.  The quiz will be the second half of class.

Dos tareas (para el lunes y martes)

There are two assignments for next class (MON/TUES)

1-  En your book:  Answer the question for your 8 animals Que opinas de (animal) y por que?  USE THE VERBS LIKE "GUSTAR"

EX:  Me chocan las serpientes porque ...
Next week there will be one more sentence that you will add to your book for each animal.  Then it is project time!  Make sure that you are taking the time to review your writing.  Check your verb conjugations, and the masc/fem - sing/pl endings to make sure that it all matches.  With writing, you have time to check your work.  With speaking you don't, so you need to do your best when you write so that it later transfers to your speaking.

2- On a sheet of paper, make a flag from a South American country (not Central).  We will use this to play an on-going game.  If you don't have your flag to begin with us on the first day, you will not be able to play because it won't be fair.

Tarea para viernes y lunes

You are continuing in your animal book.  Neither the grammar nor the sentence structure is difficult:  your goal is get as close to perfection as possible with  your verb conjugations, use of masculine/feminine/singular/plural and sentence structure while incorporating new vocabulary.

Continuing in your book with the first 8 animals:
1- On each picture, label at least 3 unique body parts
2- Write 2-3 complete sentences that answer the following questions:
      *Como es?
      *Donde vive?
*Que come? (2nd Per. you can save this one until the next class)

Examples for how to answer in a complete sentence:
1-  El perro es bonito y leal.  Usualmente los perros viven en casas y a veces en una jaula.  Los perros comen la comida de perros y les gustan los huesos.

Tarea de libro (for Wed/Thurs)

You need to begin your animal book.  For now, you will be adding to this for homework.  Later, this will turn into a project that you will complete.  In the end, there will be 16 animals total in this book.  We are beginning with 8 animals right now.

For next class, you need to:
1- Create a book that has 18 pages (title page, space for 16 animals, and a back) you can decide if  each animal page is 1 or 2 pages.  I recommend one side for the name of the animal with a picture and labeled body parts, and the other side of the page for writing about each animal.

2- Title page (you choose your own title)

3- page numbers

4- Start with your first 8 animals.  You need to write the name of the animal and include a picture (draw, print, etc.).

Have fun!
